"Right of The People"

The Declaration of Independence states that "whenever any form of government becomes destructive of these ends, it is the right of the people to alter or to abolish it, and to institute new government." Reading these words as a freshman in college, I realized how important voting is to this society. We are a relatively young nation, we still have a lot to learn. The coming elections show that we are still growing intellectually as a nation. We are realizing (regardless of political standing) that a black man and a woman are just as capable as any white man is at running this great nation. Even if a white man becomes president, as they have for over 200 years, the point remains the same. We need to continue to be open to change. We have a choice in the way we live. Maybe there isn't much we can do this very second, but we can always work toward something better. With every vote that's made one more voice IS being heard. If this voice gets loud enough a chain reaction occurs. Hopefully, even if there is turmoil we come out on top. The hard part of that is patience. Change doesn't happen overnight. But I believe, as did our 'Founding Fathers', that it is my right as a human being to create it.

Nice to meet you. . .

Howdy Everyone! My name is Megan Gillespie and this is my second year at 4C's. I'm going for a liberal arts major, but haven't made any solid decisions as far as my 'career' goes. All my life I wanted to own a Spa, went to school for three years to get three licenses (aesthetician, nail technician, and cosmetologist). . . just to figure out that's not what I wanted to do AT ALL! So here I am! I currently work part time in a hair salon and sell Avon on the side. I've been with both for over five years. My coworkers and clientèle are fantastic and hilarious. I decided to go to college because I think I want to help people feel better; more so on the inside than the outside. I am a Youth Advisor for my church's youth group. We are a non-denominational congregation so it's an interesting mix of kids. I just moved this past weekend , that's why it took me so long to introduce myself (aside from some technical difficulties). This is my first time blogging as well, so it's good to know I'm not alone! I look forward to this semester and hope to have a great time learning with you all!

Your right to vote

Voting for government officials gives one the
advantage
of the moral high ground when
complaining about the actions
taken by the elected
government. Complaining about the government
is
universal in scope. Being
able to do so openly is a
celebrated right in the United States. Anyone
and
everyone can and does complain about government
mistakes, taxes, and
injustices. But if you were diligent
enough to select your representatives in
the voting booth,
then you can complain with unbridled righteousness.

You can even complain about your candidate turned
representative, claiming
they have deviated from their
projected path. Of course, you can always rail
against
the opposition. But, if you voted for his/her opponent,
your complaints
are that much more legitimate.
Voting is also a celebrated right in this
country,
so vote, it will strengthen your argument. While you
are casting
your ballot remember, there exist places
on this planet where people give their
lives for that right.

What is the most influential factor in a young person’s life?

Being only twenty-four years old, I have always been observent of the world around me. In my opinion, the most influential factor in a younger person; let's say a teenager, would be classmates. I grew up in various different areas around the east coast. Wherever I lived, the influences always seemed to be the same. Teenagers are more concerned about impressing their friends or their girlfriends more than they are concerned about anything else. If they fall into a less achieving crowd, they will of course follow that path as well as try to upstage eachother. I have fallen victim to this as well. When I was in my teen years, all that I had ever thought about was impressing girls. I have grown out of this by now, however some people carry those characteristics on into adulthood. Aside from friends being the ultimate factor in influencing our youth, I think television plays a huge part as well. We grow up imitating what we enjoy on television. I can recall a time where I thought I was a ninja turtle. Imitation carrys over to adolescence as well. The shows they put out nowadays teach them violence and cursing. Some adolescents don't get involved with things like that; they are prone to imitate something more toward their liking. Everyone grows up liking different things. I think that influence is infinged upon them by their parents. Do I think parents are the most influential? The answer is no, I don't. The majority of children choose their own paths based on their own beliefs in adolescence. In conclusion, I feel that the real factor is when children reach their teenage yeas and learn from the crowds they are drawn to as well as the shows they watch.

Why voting is important

Voting is the essence of our country. The officials that are elected make very important decisions in our lives. Healthcare, government salaries, minimum wage, drinking age, taxes, war efforts, equality issues are just some of the decisions that are made by the officials that are voted into office. Voting is the key to having our views heard, whether or not the outcome is what we hoped for. For many societies around the world, the right to vote is not made available to the public, especially women. It is a priviledge to be able to exercise this right in a fair, confidential process without fear of retaliation. In some countries women have to walk for miles in secret to cast one vote, risking their lives to do so. It is a right that is sometimes taken for granted. We must use every tool available to us to make our opinions heard. In the United states, women were granted the right to vote in 1920 following a women's right movement. Although African Americans were allowed to vote beginning in 1789, it wasn't until the Civil Rights movement in the 1960's that they could vote without the stipulations and fear that existed previously. Their struggles were for their right, and our right to vote. Voting is our right and one that needs to be exercised by everyone if we are to be a truly democratic society.

Global warming

I am concerned that the issue of global warming isn't being taken seriously by this country. Whether or not global warming is a reality or not remains to be seen but it is not something that should be held off. There is evidence for and against global warming but all of it is incomplete. Partly due to the enormous pressure involved with such studies as well as incomplete data. I feel that instead of trumpeting outragious claims by the scientific community, some of which have validity, we should spend our time and money analyzing the data. A thorough investigation is necessary to come to an accurate conclusion. Instead of raising money for a politician to run ads as to why they think global warming is bad,and how they will spend our tax money to do it, we should spend our money on scientists that do impartial research. We ourselves should be required to check the validity of what we are told. If we don't then we can't claim anything is wrong or we'd be fools for just agreeing.

Hello All !

Hello All,

My name is Katie Santangelo and this is my second year at Cape Cod Community College. I am currently enrolled in the Accounting Concentration program and I have one semester remaining before I receive my Associates degree. I was born and raised on Cape Cod and I am currently residing in Winchendon, MA, for those of you who have not heard of Winchendon it is about three hours from the Cape and ten minutes from Rindge, NH. I proudly served in the U.S Air Force and and I am currently employed for the Department of Justice Bureau of Prisons. I intend to continue my education after I receive my Associates degree and I would love to begin a criminal justice program and receive my bachelors in some form of behavior management/criminal justice program. Since I began my position at FMC Devens it has helped me to realize what field that I want to be in and which path I need to take to further my career. I am also the ecstatic Mother of a four year old little boy named Mikey. I honestly have to say that the most stressful and enjoyable times always seem to involve Mikey and I can almost guarantee that this course is probably going to have a similar effect for me.

Hello everyone

Hey everyone, my name is Amanda and this is my second semester at 4 c's. I have lived on Cape Cod all my life and I couldn' t imagine living anywhere else. Presently I am working on my prerequisites in hopes to apply for the nursing program in January 2009. I am currently taking chemistry for the health sciences and English Comp. I started taking classes in 2002 right out of high school, but chose to take some time off to figure out what career I wanted to pursue. I started working at a urology office in Hyannis five years ago and decided I love the medical field and would like to continue my education and become an RN. Once I graduate I plan to work towards my bachelors and eventually have a job as a nurse practitioner at a pediatric office. I am looking foward to working with all you and hope you all have a great semester.

Hey everyone

Hello, everyone, my name is Dylan. This is my first semester at CCCC, and I have yet to organize myself in any particular academic direction. Just out of high school, I am still reveling in the freedom of the real world. I had not even known that the collage offered online courses until I saw this. I am taking it online, instead of conventionally, more out of the desire to try something new then for any other purpose.

I look forward to having a great semester with you all, and joining in this whole new high-tech learning movement.

Greetings

Hello everyone! Reading your posts has inspired me already!

I am originally from New Orleans and have been in New England since Katrina. I seem to have grown roots here. Fortunately I was spared with little loss and have discovered a whole new life in this area. I was in the corporate rat race back home and had no life of my own. Since coming here in 2005 I have become a Reflexologist and a Hypnotherapist. I see clients in a day spa in my spare time. I landed the job of my dreams at a head injury unit where I help take care of quadreplegics. Other than reflexology and hypnotherapy schools I have not been in a class in over 20 years. No computers, how did we ever do it ?

I am very interested in psychology and desire an associates degree for now. Knowing my history that may change several times before I am done. I work in administration most of my day and want to work on my writing skills and get my brain thinking again.

Sometimes it takes a disaster like Katrina to help you to realize that you only live once. So I have slowed down the pace and making decisions to
better myself and hopefully others along the way.

I am looking forward to working with all of you and Ms. Allen.

Trying Again!

Hi my name is James and I'm excited to finally be back at 4c's. I am currently enrolled for an IT degree but I am thinking that I may want to change to liberal arts. Perhaps I may even do a 2+2 program. I attended in 2006 but had a back injury which slowed me down to the point of withdrawal. Since then I've had a lot of changes in my life. Of course recovery is slow, but having to end a ten year marriage then take over parenting for my three kids is "energizing". But I'm up to the challenge and I look forward to working with everybody

the wonderful world of me

Hey everyone my name is Julie and this is my second semester at 4c's. I'm a stay at home mom for my 2 wonderful children. Cole who is almost 6 and Maya who is 15 months. My husband and I are also expecting our third child in August.

I'm very excited to be back in school and working towards a career while my children are still young. This way I can stay home with them until there in school full time and then head back out into the work force.

The nice thing about being back in school is it gives me an opportunity to meet new people . I'm new to Cape Cod my husband and I just moved here in April of 2007. I grew up on the north shore in the Town of Billerica. So most of my friends are living there and the surrounding towns which makes it difficult to get together.

I'm currently enrolled in the paralegal program here at the school and once I get my certificate I plan on continuing my education further.

Hola. Como estas?

My name is Danny. I am currently torn between sociology and criminology. I guess my main goal is to become a rape counseler or maybe get into criminal profiling, even though I don't think that I want to be a cop. I may possibly end up in addiction counseling. Who knows? I am just starting out at 4 C's and am also new to the area. Either way, I am definately going to receive at least my bachelors degree. I am from New York City and am greatly enjoying the change of pace around my lifestyle. I hope everyone is as psyched about being in school again as I am. I am 24 years old and have taken enough years off from school. It is time for me to get it together and persue a career in whatever it is that I choose. I look forward to working with all of you.

Hi everyone

Hi, my names Natasha or Tasha for short. This is my second semester at CCCC. I was previously at Umass Dartmouth studying Psychology, when I decided it wasn't what I really wanted to do. I actually want to become a nurse. I'm in the Nursing Assistant course this semester, along with this class and another. I plan on finishing up all of the prerequisites I need and then getting into the nursing program. After this semester I should be working as a Nursing Assistant while I continue on to become an R.N.
Once I become an R.N., I would like to work at a hospital in Boston or become a traveling nurse. Eventually I plan on getting my Bachelors and even my Masters Degree. The maternity ward is where I may want to work, as a midwife even. After having my daughter, a little over a year ago, I have become more and more interested in babies!
Right now I am already working in health care. I work in a couple of group homes where I administer medications and personally assistant the residents with every day needs. I love to take care of people and help them. That’s why I want to become a nurse so badly. Along with the fact that my daughter is my biggest motivation and I want to do well for her, along with myself!

My first blog.

Hi, my name is Julie and the title of my blog is true. That is a surprising statement from someone who spent over 20 years in the high tech industry. I actually designed part of one of the first wireless messaging protocols used to transmit messages over the airwaves. It was called RadioMail...............it is now called the blackberry. So that is my career past. My career present, I do lots of odd jobs, kayak instructor, small business consulting, technical consulting, retail whatever it takes. I am enrolled at CCCC in the paralegal program this is my 2nd semester (not counting summer - won't be doing that again!). I am thinking a paralegal certificate will be a good addition to my tool bag of resumes. One of my personal attributes, I seem to have a problem sitting still. My favorite thing to do is to go for a ride...in the winter. Last year we drove 10,000 miles in 6 weeks we covered Mt Rushmore, Yellowstone, it is beautiful at -24, Yosemite and most of southwestern Colorado. That was my 5th such trip since the turn of the century. Career future, my plan when I finish my certificate program is to drive to Alaska and maybe look for a job and see what the next twist of fate brings.
